Devices & Browsers for Exporting

Which phones and browsers can export, why some iPhones take longer, and how to keep a render from stalling.

What Your Browser Needs

An export uses your browser's built-in video and audio encoders. Most current browsers have both and export at full speed. When one is missing, BallEngine encodes that part in software instead: the video still comes out complete with full sound, it just takes longer. When there is something to say about your browser, one line about it appears near Record; on a fully capable browser, nothing is shown.

Tip

  • On iPhone and iPad every browser uses Safari's engine, so switching browsers there changes nothing; updating iOS does.

Software Rendering Limits

When video has to be encoded in software, the Studio keeps the render to a size the device can finish: at most 720p and 30 fps. Larger sizes are greyed out. If you need 1080p from such a device, use a cloud render.

Phones Default to 720p

On a phone, exports are made at 720p and 30 fps until you choose a quality yourself, because 720p finishes far more reliably on a phone's memory. Pick 1080p · 60 fps in Basics > Export if your plan includes it; from then on your choice is used.

Keep the Tab Open and Visible

An export runs inside your browser tab. If the tab is hidden, the screen locks or you switch apps, the browser may slow or pause the render, and phones often close background tabs, which ends it.

  1. 1Keep the Studio tab in front until the progress reaches 100%.
  2. 2On a phone, keep the screen awake and do not switch apps.
  3. 3On a laptop, plug in the charger and close heavy tabs and apps.
  4. 4If you need to walk away, use a cloud render instead.

Tip

  • If a render stopped because the tab closed, nothing was counted against your allowance. Start it again.
