Bounce and Break Sounds

Choose what a bounce and a break sound like: 48 built-in effects, library sounds, your own uploads, a slice of the active song, or silence.

The Bounce & Break Sounds panel

The last part of the Sound, MIDI & Audio Hub is Bounce & Break Sounds. First pick the event under Play Sound On, then pick a source under Sound Source.

Technical parameters

  • By default bounces play the active track (the next note of the song). Choosing an effect for Bounces here applies when Music Sync is off. With Music Sync on, bounces keep playing the active track; to hear an effect on every bounce while staying on the beat, set Bounces play to Sound effect in Basics.
  • MIDI files cannot be used as a bounce or break sound. Upload MIDI in the Media Library or MIDI Workshop instead.

Built-in sound effects

The Studio synthesises 48 effects itself, so they need no download and never use storage: Pop, Wood, Metal, Synth Zap, Crystal, Soft Thud, Explosion, Laser Gun, Pistol, Sniper, Glass Break, Digital Beep, Retro Jump, Thunder, Bubble, Camera, Sword, Robot, Alien, Bass Drop, Cowbell, Snare, Kick, Hi Hat, Cyber Pulse, Magic, Sparkle, Steam, Electric, Glitch, Heavy Slam, Echo Pluck, Sub Boom, Whip, SciFi Door, Wood Block, Marimba, Wind, Jelly, Squelch, Gloop, Cardboard, Clank, Rubble, Splash, Footsteps, Alarm, Marble.

The last ten (Jelly through Marble) are material sounds, what a thing sounds like when it lands rather than a musical note. Several 3D modes use them by default. The picker also has a Library shelf with extra recorded samples, when available.

Uploading your own bounce sounds

Short, clean sounds work best: a single hit with little silence at the start, under one second long.

  1. 1Open the Audio tab and expand Sound, MIDI & Audio Hub.
  2. 2In Bounce & Break Sounds, pick Bounces or Breaks, then press My Uploads.
  3. 3Press Upload MP3 and choose an MP3 or WAV file.
  4. 4Type a name (2 to 50 characters) when asked.
  5. 5Tap the sound in the list to select it. It shows Now Playing.

Mode-specific sounds

Some modes have extra sound slots of their own, for example the break sound of a ring mode or the wind when a ball escapes in Ghost Escape. They are in the Audio section, below the shared controls (the sound a growing ball makes at its maximum size is in Physics > Movement & growth labs). They use the same sound picker, with the shelves Built-in, Library and My Uploads.
