Fixing Publishing Problems

The handful of things that stop a post going out, and the quick fix for each.

01

A Post Failed or a Platform Asks You to Reconnect

The most common cause of a failed post is a connection that has lapsed. Platform access can expire if you changed your password there, revoked the app in the platform's settings, or left it unused for a long time. The fix is to reconnect: open the Publish tab, select the platform, press connect, and re-approve. Then re-run or reschedule the post. Nothing you have already posted is affected.

Pro Tip

If several jobs fail at once on the same platform, it is almost always an expired connection. Reconnect that one platform and the rest will publish again.

02

The File Is Too Big

A single publish upload can be up to 200 MB. If your file is larger, you are told before the upload starts. Record a shorter clip, drop the resolution in the Video tab, or re-encode the file smaller, then try again. Very high resolutions and long durations are what push a clip over the line.

03

The Video Is the Wrong Length or Format

Some platforms enforce length and format. Snapchat Spotlight needs a vertical MP4 between 6 and 60 seconds at 540 by 960 or larger, and it checks before uploading. TikTok enforces your account's maximum length. If a clip is rejected before upload, trim it to fit and export vertical from the Video tab.

05

You Hit Your Daily or Weekly Limit

If you have used up your plan's publishing allowance, further posts are held until the allowance refreshes (weekly on free, daily on paid plans, per platform). Wait for the reset, or upgrade for a higher allowance. See Publishing Limits by Plan.

06

An Instagram Post Is Taking a While

Instagram transcodes video on its side before a Reel goes live, and that can take a couple of minutes for a longer or higher-resolution clip. This is normal and not a stuck upload. Because the job runs on our servers, you can close the tab and let it finish.
